A GIRL CAN DREAM.....

....At Selfridges Shoe Carnival

Following a little bout of networking on Twitter last week, I came across a tweet by Selfridges promoting an event in their store called the ‘Shoe Carnival’, which runs from 01 March -21 April. Well everything about this tweet grabbed my attention. Firstly, the fact that Selfridges - whom I have a new found respect for after indulging in the hit show Mr Selfridge - were hosting a free event; secondly, that the purpose of the event was to celebrate our love of shoes yeaah, and thirdly, the word ‘carnival’ conjured up thoughts of fun fun fun! For me this was tick tick tick!

So I took myself off to Selfridges Birmingham (unfortunately their shoe department is not as imposing as Selfridges London, but it does the job nonetheless and I'm just grateful we have one!) last week and as I stepped off the escalator I was immediately greeted by a show stopping performance by Cirque Du Soir, treats tricycles offering candy floss and smoothies, Miss Ballooniverse making miniature balloon sculptures and a live DJ, all against a backdrop of beautiful shoes!

I came away day-dreaming about sitting on my bed opening a box of my very own Jimmy Choos or Louboutins (similar to the scene where Carrie Bradshaw in Sex and the City opened her box of Manolo Blahniks), but alas I came away empty handed; my credit card didn't even get a whiff of the carnival atmosphere.

Why is it that we gals drool over and lust after expensive designer shoes, when a high street shoe at a tenth of the price can feel and look just as good?

Who is your favourite shoe designer? I know it’s cliché, but I have to go with the signature shoe that is….. the Louboutin, and when I'm not dreaming, any shoe by Kurt Geiger appeals!

  4. You are beyond extremely lucky to have events like this!!! Nobody is willing to plan (or pay for) such a promotional event here. And they suck.:) But how hot were those performers! And the shoes... I want at least 5 pairs from the pics.:D I'm happy with the eBay version of shoes, to tell you the truth, but I have to admit that I was very excited when I got my first Jeffrey Campbell pair in the mail.:) But if sky were the limit - a pair of Zanotti wedges, no doubt.
