BREAKFAST AT COLLEEN'S
A Banana & Almond Smoothie
My usual breakfast of choice is a bowl of hot, creamy porridge or a bowl of No Added Sugar Alpen with a sprinkle of omega seeds and plenty of fresh semi-skimmed milk, but as the weather gets warmer, I find my palate and appetite changes; I no longer fancy anything hot or too heavy first thing in the morning, but I would never succumb to skipping breakfast, I just wouldn't function, so instead I go for something a little more light and refreshing like yoghurt and fruit, or a fresh breakfast smoothie - it’s better to eat something than nothing!
175mls Almond Milk – (a good source of calcium, although lower in protein than cows milk or soya milk)
8-10 Almond nuts – (provides some protein and fibre, and they are a source of healthy fats)
1 whole medium sized banana – (great source of vitamins and fibre and one of your 5-A-Day of fruit & veg.)
A dash of nutmeg – (perfect for taste in many milky recipes)
If you want it a bit sweeter, you could add half a teaspoon of honey.
Enjoy with a small handful of almonds
A Healthy Breakfast - the best start to your day
“Breakfast” literally means “breaking the fast”. It is often said to be the most important meal of the day, yet up to one third of us regularly miss this meal. If I missed breakfast, I would not be a pleasant person to work with or live with. Breakfast tops up the energy stores you have used up during your beauty sleep, and it provides you with the mental and physical energy you need for your busy day ahead; it also controls your appetite so that you don’t wonder off regrettably to the vending machine around 10.30/11am!
Did you know that it has been shown that people who eat breakfast have a more balanced diet than those who skip breakfast, are less likely to be overweight, and tend to lose weight more successfully? It’s true, studies have proven it.
So, no excuses about not being able to face breakfast in the morning, or about you not having time to make or prepare it; if you can make time to blog and shop for fashion, you can make time to have breakfast!
