WHEN ARE YOU TOO OLD TO WEAR CROP TOPS?

You’re only as young/old as you feel though, right?

Crop Top  Boohoo.com
Maxi-skirt  Topshop
Belt  Linea at House of Fraser

The first time I wore a crop top I was about 8 or 9 years old. I felt all grown-up as it was the start of my transition to wearing a bra, but once I started sprouting my little lady-lumps and wearing an actual bra, there was no real need on my part to wear crop tops again. So I’m asking myself the question as I’m writing this post: why the hell am I donning crop tops now? I guess it's for the same reason Kim Kardashian, Gwyneth Paltrow and a bunch of other celebs and fashion bloggers are - all in the name of fashion trends and personal style. I must admit, they do make you stand with a much better posture, so as to avoid the so-called muffin top!

Some of you will be surprised about my age; I've already had a couple of readers express their shock at how old I am, but I’m curious to know whether you think there is an age limit for when we can wear crop tops, and if there is, what is it? While we are on the subject, are there any other items of clothing or accessories that you feel ladies shouldn't wear because of their age? Or do you just think, 'middle finger up' to the age restrictions on fashion.

  1. You look fabulous first of all.

I think with crop tops quite frankly as long as you look good - wear it - i have seen 8 year olds with crop tops that should not be wearing it at all. It really is about whether it suits you or not. I feel that with shorts as well. I don't know why there is such an ageist issue with fashion. If anything it is more to do with weight and the figure isn't it? If I could wear one now I totally would wear out to lunch! Hope you had a lovely weekend xx

    1. You're right there is an ageist issue with fashion - but I too can be slightly guilty of it. If I go shopping with mum, I might tell her to put something down because it is either too old or too young for her. I agree weight plays a part too although that shouldn't be the case either. I guess it's just what you feel comfortable in as a person. I wouldn't feel comfortable bearing my midriff to go shopping or to a restaurant - it was for a get together at someone's house.

I had a lovely but busy weekend thank you - nice to be back at my PC hun xx

  2. Your and These girls looks great with a crop top. I I'm definitive feel to old for such a Outfit. Maybe it's depends how you feel and not the birthday on your ID-Card.

    1. I too feel a little old for a crop top, but I'm selective where I wear it. I wouldn't feel comfortable wearing it to certain places so I just wouldn't

  23. I want to say never to old, but maybe 50, but then again halle berry is close to 50 and she can still rock anything! so maybe it depends on the person. I think the older you get its probably best to wear it with a high waisted skirt or pants rather then show your whole midriff!!

But you look hot and your figure suits crop tops perfectly!

  24. Wonderful, dear Colleen, before I looked at your post, I thought, if one is - I think about 35 years - is too old for this trend. I don´t know how old you are but you´re definitely young enough. But I for myself still not sure if I should wear this trend, too, because I´m 43 and I think, this is really to old. And I think I haven´t such a perfect body like you ... But congrats for your look - thumps up!

I definitely don't think that there should be an age limit for cropped tops but.. it should be looking damn good on you if you wear it! (like on you)

  28. WOW! The tricky question that I've asked myself many times since I saw the trend on the catwalk...!! In my modest opinion 45 years is the limit age to wear a cropped top with class and without looking ridiculous...
Love the way you wear yours!! ;-)

  30. Your body, babe, is... I mean... Can I have your body.:D Hot. You look good. So please wear all the crop tops you want! I actually think that a crop top and a long skirt make a person look more mature, because someone young would probably wear that with shorts or a tight mini so ALL would be on display.:)

P.S.: You didn't hear about the drama where Kim was "attacked" by a PETA activist who threw flour on her for wearing fur? I think it was in one of the episodes but I'm not sure... I'm against fur, leather is a by product of meat, but foxes, alligators and chinchillas getting killed just so someone could enjoy a bit of luxury is wrong in my book. No matter who kills them... But I love Kim in a crop top - she's practically hot in anything.:)

    1. My bad, yes yes I remember seeing that Kim issue on E. I don't wear fur either, but I have mixed opinions about the whole meat, by-product, fur debate. That, we would need to discuss over coffee!

and eerrr I've seen your body, you certainly don't need mine!

  35. You can wear designer crop tops with a variety of clothes like long skirts, jeans etc. Make sure you choose contrasting colors to make the best impact. For instance, go for a light blue or white crop top with black jeans.
