THAT DARN MULBERRY

I just can't get you out of my head!

No, I don’t make a habit of taking pictures of bags in shops or me carrying bags that still belong to the shop; these shots were taken at the exclusive (well they say exclusive, anyone could buy a ticket) Harvey Nichols A/W 2013 Fashion Show & Soiree that I attended this week.

Since clapping my eyes on this Berry, I can’t stop thinking about it; I feel miserable that it continues to reside on the Harvey Nichols shelf instead of hanging in my wardrobe closet! Do you know what else I can’t get out of my head? This bag really is nothing special for the price of £895; take the Mulberry emblem off and it could quite easily be mistaken for a Zara bag, yet if I spotted it in Zara, the likelihood is I wouldn't be lusting after it or writing about it right now, in fact I probably wouldn't even buy it! It’s that classic case of: the more expensive an item, the more coveted that item is. Is there a name for this ‘condition’ apart from stupid and pretentious? It’s times like this when I consider whether I should buy a pet or have a baby or find a husband so that all these immaterial things I’m lusting after no longer occupy my mind; did anyone see the Sex And The City episode where Carrie lost her Manolo Blahniks at her friend's house party? – hhhhmm, anyways………

THE FASHION SHOW
I’d love to say that the catwalk snaps below were taken by me at New York Fashion Week, but I’m afraid I had to make do with a 20-minute drive from my home to Birmingham’s prestigious Mailbox where a selection of Harvey Nichols’ key looks from the Autumn/Winter 2013 collections were being showcased to the fashion conscious and style aware................ a girl can dream, right!

  2. Looks like you had a great time bar the unrequited love at the mo...yes it's natural to think about something. Who knows why we like what we like?? It is a crazy science isn't it? Just try it on a few more times and maybe that allot needs before the urge goes away. If it doesn't then it's a sign! But I know you do like mulberry and I think it might be the solidity of the brand :) let us know how you go! Xx

    1. It is crazy isn't it, I really should do some scientific research on the issue!

  4. I enjoyed reading your post, Colleen. I wish I could express myself that well in English :)
I don't know why this specific bag stack in your mind but I am guessing it is the craftsmanship and the quality of the leather too... It happened to me with the mini Proenza Schouler and I got it...I have worn it so much, it was worth every penny.

  8. Hi Colleen! Lol, I have seen that episode of S&C and I really get you! The bag is great but is general all the Mulberry's are! It is what happens to me with the Antigona..but I have a plenty of names in my mind!:) Btw, you totally look awesome dear, I love the outfit you chose for the occasion, super glam, the dark floral pants matched with black are so trendy and I like the choice of color of the bag! The show must have been nice, you took great pics! Oh the car, to die for!:) Kisses, have a lovely weekend! xo

    1. oh good, I'm glad you knew what I was referring to with the SATC episode!

  9. Hello Carrie! Carrie Bradshaw of course, and not Carrie the supernatural horror film character. Hahahaha. You are currently so SATC, I'm laughing out of excitement for you (not at you). You look great as usual! You look great in hats. You're inspiring me to wear more hats (not easy to find a good shape for my roundish Asian face). Ok, let's talk about the bag. You're right about removing the Mulberry label and it'll look like something from Zara (I love Zara though). This one looks like it's also been Chanel-inspired. Mulberry's craftsmanship is great but I think the price tag for this one is not spot on. I'll pay £600 max for this type of bag and still would be very hesitant about it. Sometimes you just want you want then it'll pass. We all have an inner Carrie :) As for the husband, trust me, that's a bad replacement for retail therapy anxiety. Hahahaaa. Get a lover instead. Peace. Better yet, come to London and have a weekend break! Have a lovely weekend xxx

    1. hee hee, more like the latter Carrie.....

eeerr I'm looking at yoru avatar picture here and you look kinda hot in that hat, and that Facebook picture you posted with the scarf, a floppy or fedora hat would have looked amazing! Go get you hat girlfriend!

When I picked it up I was expecting maximum £500 for this bag, I think they are trying to do a bit of product placement with Chanel indeed!

Husband, bad replacement, eh? Oh dear. I cant say publicly what I was going to say about the lover lol, but I'm liking that idea of a weekend in London! x

  13. The bag is great but too pricey for me. I think some Zara bags do a great job too. Your outfit is great, but you are always in style.
Diid you recognized the man in front of you at the show? He looks good, exactly my style. ;)

  18. Trust me, even if you had a bunch of pets, babies, husbands or any other pests, you'd still be preoccupied with all the pretty things you want but don't/can't have.:D I agree, without the emblem the bag wouldn't be all that, but that car... That car would still be all that and more!!! And the shoes, I'm loving those shoes too - the neoner the better.:)

  19. Oh, I know that feeling... and I can see why you're stuck on this Mulberry bag, it's a gem! I have to admit, I'd love it label or no label; I'm a sucker for a good chain strap :)
