VIBRANT COLOUR

Finally!

Spring/summer 2013; an excuse to update our wardrobes with the latest fashion trends: mod fashion; monochrome; androgyny; pinafore dresses and dungarees; floral appliqués; crop tops; and vibrant, bold hues. I don’t like to consider myself a fashion victim, but this year, I have to proclaim that I have indulged and taken a risk with pretty much all of the said trends, except one - vibrant, bold hues. I often wear denim, black and ‘safe’ colours (i.e. whites and blues), and only really use my accessories to add a touch of dramatic colour to my outfit - this is a perfect strategy for anyone who prefers to shy away from colour.

We are now coming to the end of spring/summer 2013, unfortunately, but there is light at the end of the tunnel: it’s a chance to shop the new Autumn/Winter 2013 trends, and the heavily discounted Spring/Summer 2013 trends, whoop! I've not immersed myself in to autumn/winter shopping yet, as I'm too busy buying and lusting after sales bargains, such as this dress from Zara.

The style/cut of this dress is right up my street, but the colour is quite a distance from my usual choice - it’s yellow, from top to bottom, left to right aaah! I’d normally walk straight past this in a shop, but I was drawn to it. It was reduced, and I knew I had a wedding to attend at the end of August; this was my chance to take a risk with vibrant colour. Okay, I've left it to the end of the season to experiment, but better late than never. This was my wedding outfit! The wedding didn't actually take place in a church, I just decided to take the shots here for ‘fashion blogging’ purposes -  go figure!

B&%£H STOLE MY LOOK!
A week after I bought this dress, I found out that former Spice Girl, Emma Bunton, wore it on Saturday night prime-time television. It’s quite refreshing to see millionaire celebrities donning high-street, isn't it? It doesn't matter that the shoes or bags they pair it with probably cost more than a few of my shoes or bags put together. Emma wore her dress with a belt; I tried this, but it made the dress too short, which I didn't think was appropriate for a wedding.

  2. Gorgeous dress, Colleen, and you rock it so much more than that Spice person!!!
I love the colour on you, and with those sandals it's perfection.
I actually don't like belts on dresses of that style. It sort of defeats the whole point of the shift shape.

  6. I'll give you a 10; Emma gets a 7! Just because she's a little cutie. Hahaha. She was my customer once at the eveningwear dept of this dept store in Central London. She was tiny and all the dresses were too long for her. She didn't find any at the shop.
But anyway, I digress. You look great in that yellow number! I'm glad you didn't upstage the bride. Haha. But even more glad that no one else was wearing the same dress. It happened to me at a wedding I attended in June. We looked like bridesmaids! Hahaha. Great choice!

    Have a lovely week xxx

  10. The dress looks way better on you than that spice girl. And to tell you honestly pairing with a belt made this dress so common. You wore it better anytime.

  11. You look like a million bucks! No - pounds!!:) You should shy away from bold colors, they sure suit you. And your skin looks so luminous!! I wonder if you stole the spot light from the bride in that bright, eye catching dress?:)

  12. Congrats, that you took the risk, dear Colleen, I love you with this bright yellow! Yellows is always one of my fav colors and to your type it goes really perfect!

And I had the same thought, with this dress there was indeed the danger that you were more bright than the bride :)

  14. Colleen, you're looking amazing - totally felt in love with your dress! Love both the color and cut. On the one hand it's so girly and stylish, on the other so classy and chic! I'm afraid we don't have this adorable dress in Austria - I would buy it, too :-) ... - What do you think about my today's look? Kisses from Vienna,

  15. Your dress definitely has a real 60s look and the colour certainly suits you. The black heels are perfect with it too. A great wedding outfit! I'm still reluctant to start wearing autumn clothes but I may have to give in as today up here it's pouring down and not too warm at all! Have a great weekend - hope the sun is still shining in Birmingham!
