MIDLANDS FASHION AWARDS

Birmingham hosts another fashion event!

The first weeks of fall have been a fashion enthusiast’s dream here in Birmingham: first there was the Harvey Nichols fashion show mid-September, followed by Style Birmingham at the end of September and the latest event being the Midlands Fashion Awards last Friday. The downside of attending all these events is that they stoke desires to go shopping; I say downside, it's really a darn good glorious excuse to buy new clothes, bags and shoes such as these Forever 21 heels, which are 'new-in'.

I started blogging roughly this time last year and whilst I've always had a penchant for shopping and fashion, I never really immersed myself in to it apart from a couple of trips a month to the Bullring shopping centre and avidly reading Vogue and Instyle . Since the inception of my blog, however, I've also been making a conscious effort to attend as many local fashion events as I can (local because it’s cheaper); initially to inspire my blog content, but more recently to support my additional ‘venture’ as a Fashion Stylist. Attending these events has given me the opportunity to socialise, network and mingle with other Midlands peeps that have a stylish disposition.

The Midlands Fashion Awards, hosted by ITV presenter Lucy Kite, was held on the 11 October and took place in the Penthouse within the Loft Lounge (a city centre bar).  It’s an event that celebrates independent and emerging fashion designers and provides a platform for designers to gain exposure and recognition for their work.

As well as admiring all the fashion being showcased at these events, I occasionally find myself in ruminate thought about two things as the models strut their stuff down the catwalk: 1) why can’t I be taller with legs up to my armpits and 2) how amazing it would be to have an ounce of creative design talent to be able to design and make clothes for me and others to wear. Once I've finished self-deprecating for five minutes, I’m able to get on with enjoying the show. Here are a few snaps from the evening:

  5. First off, babe, you're gorgeous so there's tons of modeling jobs you can get, it's not just about walking down the runway. There are so many tiny bloggers who got noticed by designers and labels because of their blogs and now they're models too. So dream big and don't stop till you get there. And the other thing was - how hot are those heels!!!!! I love the color and the design, they were made for the outfit you wore!

    1. aaaw thanks for the encouragement babes. To be fair, it's not that I want to be a model as such (I don't have the bone structure and I'm not naturally photogenic) I just want to have longer legs/be taller; however I certainly wouldn't say no to a modelling opportunity at 5ft 4in!!!

  6. First of all you look adorable and I like how wear.e feminine and fashionable you dresses yourself. I don't like it when people go mental.

Second good for you for getting out there.

Third, I know London is a bigger city but I have found that the other cities always seem to hold more events and celebrate more. Sometimes London can be too cool for school and too up itself to go out and party if that makes any sense. I think it's great you guys have all these events.

    Have a lovely weekend xx

  12. Babes you look super stunning!!! Honestly babes you don't need long legs,You look super cool. I do admire you a lot. Kate moss does not have long legs yet she rocks. I believe it's the way you carry yourself. Everyone has got swags and that makes you unique and different from others either you are short or long. Even the long ones do complain. I love those heels. So obvious you had a great time at this event.
    Kisses...

  17. Babe, I just have to say - and I say this lovingly - what the heck is wrong with you?! There's nothing wrong with your boobs, at least not from where I'm sitting. And I have the exact opposite opinion: I think that smaller breasts make clothes look better. How many times do you hear the Fashion Police on E! say that this or that actress can't wear a certain dress because she's showing too much cleavage? But I do agree with you on this - lipsticks ARE a hassle.:)

  18. You have been really spoilt down in Birmingham with all these fashion events and this one looks fabulous too! The emerging designers must have been grateful for the opportunity. Your skirt looks
lovely - what a great design and colour too. Have a good weekend.
