JUSTIFICATION

or lame excuse?

If you follow me on Instagram or Facebook, you might have caught a glimpse of the latest fashion accessory I had been lusting after – this Anya Hindmarch tote from online outlet, The Outnet.

I was reading blogs before I started writing Forcailini, so I’d probably say I've been an avid  blog reader for the past 18 months and in that time there has been one fashion blog that draws me back at least once a week - 5 Inch and Up; you could say I've become one of her loyal onlookers ( I say onlooker because she doesn't tend to write much prose on her blog, but her fashion and personal style makes up for it), although she doesn't know this because I no longer comment on her posts, in fact I stopped commenting when I asked her a quick and relevant question and she failed to respond, but hey I guess that’s the policy of the ‘super’ fashion bloggers: don’t respond to the mere mortals who have to ‘fit’ blogging around full time desk jobs!

Anyway, I’m digressing from this delightful Anya Hindmarch bag. The reason why I mentioned 5 Inch and Up was because it was her blog that I first clapped eyes on the tote and thought it was perfect for what I needed/wanted - my credit card statement was a lot less before I started reading blogs by the way - however when I clicked on to The Outnet link where you could buy the bag, despite a 53% reduction it was still quite pricey for what, I agree, could pass as a Zara bag (noted Ms Madge).

I debated for days about purchasing this bag, even asking for advice on Instagram, until my girlfriend mentioned how much she was spending on her kids: computer games; phone; clothes; school kit and the like. Then it suddenly dawned on me; half of my friends are spending the same amount if not more on their children as I do on fashion. I’m single and childless (not barren, it’s by choice) and without sounding vacuous my shoes and bags are my little babies, my prides of joy. I don’t have the expense of ‘real’ babies so whilst my friends are spending copious amounts on their children’s hobbies and necessities, surely it’s acceptable and justifiable for me to spend the same on my pastime – shopping. Should I ever have a child (although highly unlikely) I may need to revisit my priorities, but for now my priority for my disposable income is adding to my existing wardrobe - justification or what? Welcome to my wardrobe Anya Hindmarch!

  2. Colleen, lol you made me so smile! The important is always being honest and you were. If you could afford that purchase and havent any duties to others, for me you did well. Be spoiled till you do, life is too short to regret!:P And wow, the bag is just marvelous! I love this kind of shape since is versatile and very handy, plus the colors combo is perfectly matching with everything. Well done!:) Regarding the blogger, Im sorry you havent got any reply, I think that answering is very important for a blogger. Have a great weekend dear, kisses! xo

  3. The fact is if you can afford it then get whatever you like! It is a nice bag and if you enjoy carrying it then it is worth it. I just feel sorry for people who can't afford things and extend themselves to buy bags to impress people they don't know and live above a chip shop but have designer goods. So I think you are a single girl with disposable income so it is perfectly cool and I look forward to the modelling pics!! Xx

    1. You see the problem is, the fact that it is an unnecessary purchase, that's what leaves me debating with myself about buys like this. I debate whether the money would be better placed in my ISA or topping up my pension pot, but now I have justified the spend and I feel much better - modelling pics coming next, I knew you'd be asking for them ha x

  4. Hahahahahaha....what did I say on 'The Rules to Break'? Never give advice to a friend. But especially when it comes to buying bags and shoes. Laughing coz I knew you'll go ahead anyway :D Alright, it does look better in your home. I'm sure it'll look better on your arms. So please post the photos soon. Have a good weekend, and again, thank you for sharing the Empire State photo. It means a lot to me, especially when some people who know me well didn't even bother asking about the situation back home. I may be safe, my family and friends may be safe, but someone else I know may not be. Thank you. Now, model the bag! xxx

I'm definitely a shoes and bags person too and a good bag can make a big difference to an outfit. This one is gorgeous, practical and you can afford it, so enjoy it!

  10. I screen grabbed the part about 'super bloggers'. I've been on the receiving end of all that attitude n I know it aint pretty.
    Its a funny world tho.
    Gorgeous bag!
You don't need to justify spending money on it. Having it sit in your closet can bring smiles to your face anytime. And that's enough justification to me.
    Life's too short!

  11. Dear Colleen, congrats to your perfect new bag, and I can´t anything than agree that children are indeed sure more expensive then your fashion hobby :) So you did it absolultely right to buy the bag!

Btw I made the same experience that the super bloggers normally don´t answer. There are only two outstanding exceptions: Caroline from the Norwegian blog "Footballfrue", although she answers at least to some of my comments on her blog, which she does with most of the comments which she get, and she gets indeed many comments, and Mireia from the Spanish blog "My daily style", she answered sometimes, a few days after I started my blog, direct on my blog :)

But the other super blogger don´t answer, I think this is their privilege ...

Wish you many fun and pleasure with your awesome new bag <3

  12. That's definitely no lame excuse! And you don't need a justification ether in my opinion. You're a hard working woman who deserves to treat herself once in a while if not all the time, so you go, girl!! But you got me all worked up with that 5 Inches and Up story. Those pretentious bitc... They could at least answer to the questions. I NEVER comment on their blogs because they don't give anything back, so fuck them. I know they can't comment on every single blog in return (they actually could, but for the sake of the argument let's just say they can't) but they could at least answer the damn questions. I saw a girl responding to one comment by an anonymous person calling her a spoiled brat but she didn't respond to a girl two comments about that asking her what kind of lipstick does she use. I got so pissed that I posted a comment saying: "How do you think it looks when you don't respond to people asking you legit questions when you OBVIOUSLY read the comments and take the time to deal with morons?" Of course I got no response... It really pisses me off. Apparently.:) (So sorry for the long comment...)

    1. Don't apologise, I am literally nodding my way through every one of your sentences! Yeah, I definitely don't expect bloggers to respond to comments but like you said at least respond to questions, especially questions about the things they are probably being paid to promote. I see you are as heated as me ha!

  13. I love it,It's a very cute bag and never say never to having kids. You never know, I use to say never,I never planned for mine, but luckily for me they came at the right time and the right age. My partner was very helpful,God bless him. It's funny how i use to talk about my kids all the time, maybe it's because i never thought i would have them. Can't wait to see you rock this pretty baby.

    1. Well I must say, sometimes when I look at the fun and laughter people have with their kids, it does make me think what it would be like, but that thinking doesn't last for long lol!

  14. I support you! The bag looks amazing and you don't need any excuse, you simply deserve it! It's exactly what I feel when people say I spend too much or travel too much - but hey, I decide what's too much - because I don't have kids and I may sound superficial (though I know I am not, but again, hey, and even if I were), so I indulge myself and that's my way. Full stop :) So I think you totally deserved this bag and even if you wanted two more bags I would have supported you! :) So bad that the top blogger didn't answer you. Maybe she forgot that top blogging starts with top readers like you. Well, it was her loss! Cause you are great! denisesplanet com

  15. OMG!!! Didn't even read through, until now.... Had to put my kids to sleep so i was rushing. I hope this is not me colleen? I remember you asking me about my Coat,Honestly, I was going to respond until my little boy started crying for cocoa pops,You know how it's like, when you are on your laptop and you get your kids screaming Mum! Mum!!! I go Mad! My boys would say mummy why do you go on your blog all the time? Then i become Numb. These days i forget things so much and am seriously feeding on (Gingko) Honestly,You need to visit me and spend a night in my house.Last week i was at my Gp's,thought my BP was high, honestly i don't mean to scare you. I am not that kind of person,I can't hurt a fly. I remember a very sweet blog(Kim) asked me where i live, and i responded back on her blog.My uni days was so scary cause people would look at my face structure and think i was too strict until when they got closer, my best friends were mainly boys. I didn't bother listing the brand of my Coat because i have worn it thousand of times, It's(Vintage) Chelsea girl.Am def sure this is not me. So sorry if i have hurt you in anyways. Sometimes ago, there was this blogger in her late or early 40's,I loved her sense of style although it wasn't the kind of style i would wanna rock, she loved jeans and high heels,I admired her bags, she was always rocking big time designers,I would run like others commenting on her blog, but the good thing about her is that,No matter what, she would respond back or say something nice. Until one day, I took a long break off my blog, She never checked on me,she was bloody waiting for me to come running like others, from that time on, i said in my mind, DONE! I never went back, sometimes i was tempted to say hi, but i had to shut my mind. Tons and Tons sweetie,i noticed recently one so called blogger would share her comments on blog privately and i would share comments on her blog publicly, I loved her sense of styling so much, Am not gonna lie i went back on her blog to delete my comments and never went back, because once am logged out of my blog no one could see her comments,so why comment on my blog pretending nice? Sorry for the long comments.
    Have a nice evening!
