WINTER IS NOT SO BAD

If you like hats and knee-high boots

As much as I loathe this cold, wintry weather, it does have some saving graces; in my opinion, winter fashion and style outclasses the summer’s. I definitely get more anxious when I go shopping at this time of year, simply because there is just so much more to choose from – better clothes, better shoes, better accessories......do you agree? It might just all be in my head, but comparing my credit card statements from season to season, I definitely know I spend more on clothes etc. at this time of year. I've also noticed that winter fashion and style tends to be a better investment; I can wear them for the majority of the year (British weather and all that) and from year to year without them looking tired and ‘so last season’. My boots and hats are cases in point. I bought the boots from Zara last year when I was going through my phase of lusting after the Givenchy fold over boots - let's be honest, they are still one of my highly coveted items! I also bought the hat last year when I saw, you guessed it, Kim K donning a similar one. However, when I put them on now, they still feel like a recent purchase (the only item that is new in this outfit is the shirt, which is from Reiss, and the Hindmarch bag).

More saving graces: last weekend my GHD hair straighteners and brush did not touch my hair. They didn't need to because I had every intention of wearing a hat all weekend and I knew nobody would notice the nest that hid beneath it. It takes me a while to do my locks, despite them being bobbed, but this chilly weather lends itself perfectly to just covering them up with a trilby, a fedora, a beanie or, as shown in today’s photos, a floppy without any effort at all. Regarding the shoes, I prefer boots to sandals. I don’t have the best feet in the world so covering them up suits me just fine. These knee-high boots are right up my street, not just because they are knee-high, but also because they have a wedge heel – height, tick; comfort, tick!

I’m predicting this weekend will be just the same – rocking another pair of knee-high boots and using another hat to hide my untouched mane.

Which season do you prefer for shopping, fashion and style?

  1. I absolutely agree with you, summer is the better season for pretty clothes, shoes and shopping.
You can pull over a nice dress and sandals and you are ready to go.
Dear Colleen, I love it, if you wear a hat. You have such a perfect hat-face, so beautyful. Also the rest of your outfit fits you and your hat very well.
    Have a nice weekend, Cla

  2. a friend also loves winter for that reason but I love summer even though you expose yourself more i just love maxi dresses and feeling flowy and airy. But i think fashion wise fall is the best because you can show your outfit rather than hide it with a hgue coat. PS re boots - dude i cant get boots past my calves let alone my knees so you have skinny girl issues. ;P xx

    1. That's so true, summer clothes can look a bit trashy if you don't play your cards right - booty shorts and cleavage hanging out all over the place.......

  4. Hi Colleen! I agree with you, winter shpping is definitely gorgeous and there is much more stuff to choose, even though at the end I suffer the cold so I tend to buy much heavy clothes. I have the same opinion also for the fashion weeks, the one for the F/W season is always my fav to watch. Btw, dear you look fantastic! You rock the knee-high boots in such awesome way. I like you wear them on jeans, the result is very stylish, love also the hat, I want one too! Have a fab weekend and stay warm! Kisses! xo

  12. Hi dear Colleen, you bought last year great boots and like you I already realized that the stuff which I buy for Autumn and Winter has a longer life time in my closet as the pieces which I bought in Spring and Summer :) For example today I wear a cashmere sweater from Malene Birger which I bought I think 3 years ago and also boots from Zara which I bought last year (you can see it tomorrow on my blog).

And btw I love your complete look really, you look so cool in that great boots with the hat and the denims <3

I wish you a successful and happy new week!

  13. Supah chic! I've come to love hats so I love your look here. I was born and raised in the tropics so dressing up for winter was extremely exciting for me, and it's been a learning curve about layering. Winter shopping for me is more expensive also, and because I used to live in sandals, shopping for boots is such a luxury. So comfort-wise, I prefer dressing up for summer. But in terms of sophistication, I love dressing up for winter. It's quite an excuse to have my hair more done, my lipstick a tad more pigmented, my scent a little heavier. I just feel more grown-up in winter while summer dressing brings me back to eternal youth. So the verdict? I prefer to shop for winter fashion! Have a lovely week babes xxx

    1. That's true, winter shopping is more expensive and yep definitely agree with your point about winter style making you feel more grown up. I'm a little more daring in the summer though, I sometimes try to fit in with the twenty somethings - sometimes it works, sometimes IT DOES NOT! x

  14. I absolutely agree with you. I much prefer winter clothes with the layering, the textures, the scarves and I spend far more during the colder months too but a few classic pieces of knitwear can so esily be worn for more than one season especially if its good quality. Your boots are fabulous with the buckle detail and the wedge. I find it so much easier to walk with a high wedge than heels. As you say, our cold weather lasts longer here too so we get more wear out of our boots!

  19. I absolutely agree on this, and I think it's a bit of a catch 22. I prefer summer weather but I choose winter clothes every time, no contest. Of course, I also live in a place that is rainy and cool most of the year, so I get more wear out of my winter clothes than average. And my hats, too! Yours is delightful. And I'm so envious of those beautiful boots, I've been lusting after the same Givenchy pair since last season but have yet to find a good lower priced substitute myself.
