GROUPON REVIEW

I'm sorry

Groupon email, delete, Groupon email, delete. That’s what I tend to do each time I receive an email from Groupon, a deal-of-the-day website that offers substantial discounts for various services and products including hotels, flights, restaurants, appliances and events. It’s sheer laziness and an overwhelming number of gratuitous emails that resulted in me being so blasé with the Groupon emails, but for the first time last week I decided to open the email, chiefly to find the unsubscribe button, and as I scrolled down the page I saw a voucher for Marco Pierre White restaurant; a restaurant I had intended going to in the next few weeks, coincidentally enough.

I’m a self-proclaimed foodie and can be quite pretentious when it comes to dining out, so when I saw the discount voucher for two or four meals at the new Marco Pierre White restaurant I decided I had nothing to lose and at least a 50% reduction on the food bill to gain – good ole’ Groupon. The new £12million rooftop Marco Pierre White restaurant, which affords you the luxury of 360 degree views of the city, resides in the Cube, an iconic and imposing building situated in the The Mailbox - home to some of the most desirable eateries and exclusive, high-end shops in Birmingham,

We chose a lunch time slot and whilst the culinary skill was commendable, we were a little disappointed with the wait time inbetween courses. Nonetheless, the surroundings and atmosphere made the wait a little easier to digest, excuse the pun. We opted for 3 courses even though the voucher only entitled us to two; asking me to choose between a starter and a dessert is criminal!

I’ll definitely be avoiding the delete button the next time I receive a Groupon email. Do you use Groupon or any other similar scheme or coupons that offer discounts for shopping, travel or restaurants?

Cream of Tomato for starters

Sea bass for main

Bread and butter pudding for dessert

And the outfit of the day - one of the rare occasions I'll wear a skirt this short is when my legs spend most of the time under a dining table.

  2. What a coincidence indeed! Im glad you had the chance to try the restaurant as it really looks dreamy, sophisticated and ultra chic, the perfect place for gourmets, you got an amazing deal! What a shame for the wait, is something I really hate especially when Im too hungry :P Btw, Ive used Groupon service too and had good and bad experiences, for sure I think is a great opportunity to try something new and a good price, at least the money you waste (or invest) are always less than without the voucher. Oh Colleen, you look amazing! What great legs you have! Enjoy the weekend, kisses! xo

  3. When groupin first came out I loved it but the pain was in booking the item you wanted and there were always do many conditions so like you I stopped looking at them but maybe I should look at them in a new light?! Have a lovely weekend xx

    1. Yeah there are a few conditions, but I guess if you can be flexible it's worth it x

  4. I'm guilty too! I used to read the emails but they tended to be for places which didn't really appeal to me and for some time now I have ignored them. Your offer was an amazing deal. The décor, as you would expect, is sophisticated and sea bass would have been my choice too. Great outfit too.
I'd better go and check my Groupon email!

    1. That's exactly what I used to think - that they would be for places that didn't really appeal, but I'll certainly be keeping a lookout a bit more.

  5. Noooooo! I don't subscribe to any of them things, it just takes so much time to look! I definitely unsubscribe more than I subscribe in these days of content overload. Having said that, I have been on a couple of offers that other people have got but can't say I've ever become a repeat customer because of it! Meal sounds lovely though but even on offer, I'd still go back to Loves - my fave restaurant in the city & don't have time to visit it often enough! Have you been there with me?

    1. I agree about the content overload, that's one of the reasons I used to ignore them. I have been to Loves and the service was definitely better there. I'm due another trip (will have to check Groupon lol), I haven't been there with you though.

  7. I've used Groupon before and though I haven't looked recently, just knowing that I receive them in my inbox for my convenience is comforting. Haha. The best voucher my partner and I got thru Groupon was a consultation with a private consultant who specialises in rare hematological conditions. Through that, my partner found out about his rare illness which the NHS couldn't be bother to check as he had no obvious life-threatening symptoms. Now, the NHS is on it, he's getting proper treatment, and I'm planning to write an awareness campaign about it as no one really knows that it actually exists. So yes to Groupon! Have a lovely week xx

    1. Do you know, I'm a firm believer in things happening for a reason; I'm so pleased to hear that his illness is being dealt with now and I think it would be amazing for you to write an awareness campaign - I'll look out for it x

  8. How good that you finally not decided to delete this email, instead opened it to find the sign-off-button and finally found this amazing coupon with that huge discount! Obviously not only the restaurant is amazing, the food looks also delicious ... which fits perfect to to the look you show here <3 I have to admit that I seldom use coupons as I don't have the patience to collect and seek for them ... but after your post I'm once more aware that this is a fault :) Have a good rest of the week dear Colleen!
